
Herbert Calvin, 79, of N. Maple St., Fayette, died Monday afternoon, May 13, 2019, just one day short of his 80th birthday, at his home, surrounded by his family while under the care of CHP Hospice. He was born May 14, 1939, in Pioneer, Ohio, the son of the late Lester and Grace (Walz) Calvin. He married the former Janet Brandeberry on June 28, 1964. She survives.
A longtime resident of Fayette, Herb graduated from Fayette High School in 1957. He owned and operated Calvin’s TV and Appliances in downtown Fayette for 35 years retiring in 1999. Years ago, he was a member of the Fulton County Hand Radio Club and he served as a volunteer fire fighter at the Gorham-Fayette Fire Department. He enjoyed model trains and radio-controlled airplanes and was a member of the Hillside Aeromodelers Club. Herb will be remembered as a simple and humble guy who loved his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 54 years, Janet, are his son, Nate (Vicki) Calvin of Wauseon; sister, Betty Morrison of Stryker; and grandchildren, Cole and Grace Calvin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Rudy, and Norman Calvin.
In accordance with Herb’s wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service for Herb will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019, at Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette with Pastor Matthew Sauder officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins.
