Highway Patrol Investigating Three-Vehicle Crash Near Pioneer

Pioneer – At 4:00 PM, The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a three vehicle crash at the intersection of US 20 and Lakeshore Drive in Madison Township, in Williams County. This is near the Village of Pioneer.

A 2010 Chrysler Town and County Van, driven by 20 year old Cole C. Weaver of Hudson, Michigan, was traveling eastbound on US 20. A 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by 73 year old Sheila S. Sharp of Pioneer, Ohio, was also traveling eastbound on US 20. The third vehicle a 1992 GMC Pick-up driven by 52 year old William F. Haviland was westbound on US 20. The Chrysler Van struck the Chrysler PT cruiser in the rear end. The Chrysler Van then crossed the center line and side swiped the westbound GMC pick-up. The Chrysler van then went off the right side of the roadway into a wire. The Chrysler PT Cruiser went off the right side of the roadway and overturned. The GMC pick-up continued straight.

Both Cole C. Weaver and Sheila S. Sharp were transported by Life Flight to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo.

Cole C. Weaver is listed in stable condition. He was not wearing a seat belt during the crash.


Sheila Sharp later succumbed to her injuries and passed away at the Hospital. She was wearing her seat belt.

The driver and passenger of the GMC pick-up did not have any injuries. The driver, Mr. William F. Haviland had his seatbelt on during the crash. The passenger Dale Armstrong had his seat belt on.

The Highway Patrol was assisted by Williams County Sheriff’s Department, Pioneer Police Department, Pioneer Fire and Williams County EMS Rescue. The crash remains under investigation.
