Hilltop Defeats Fayette In Three Innings

April 12, 2015Updated:December 31, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

(April 6th, 2015) – FAYETTE: It was a rough outing for the hometown girls of Fayette as they hosted the Lady Cadets in Buckeye Border Conference action. With just a single hit and 5 errors to their name, the contest was called after three innings of play.

When it was over, the scoreboard read 21-0, in favor of the visitors from West Unity.

Hilltop got off to a really strong start, hitting the ball quite well in the opening inning. By the time they had to take to the field for the first time, the Cadets held a 10-0 advantage. Fayette could not find an answer, unable to score a run in the bottom half of the first. The Lady Cadets picked up where they left off in the top of the second inning, tacking on another 6 runs. They added their last 5 runs in the third, giving themselves a 21 run lead heading into the bottom of the inning. Again, the Lady Eagles couldn’t get on the board, causing the mercy rule to be enacted and the contest to end.

Lady Cadet Veronica Roth led her team with a nearly flawless performance. The junior was a perfect 4 for 4 from the plate, complimenting a trio of singles with a home run blast and 3 RBI. Classmate Karissa Crisenbery also capitalized on every opportunity in the batter’s box, hitting 3 for 3 with a single, a double, and a triple. She also drove in an astounding 6 RBIs.

For the Fayette girls, Kaitlin Brubaker went 1 for 1 from the plate. She hit for a single, and was the only Lady Eagle to get on base.

Aubrey Wyse secured the win from the mound for Hilltop. The pitcher gave up just 1 hit, striking out 3 batters and walking none in three innings of work. Also pitching for all three innings was Fayette senior Leah Bussing, who gave up 17 hits and 2 walks in the loss.
