Janet Marie Schafer, 70, of Montpelier passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was born on December 1, 1953, in Hicksville to James and Marjorie (Gustin) Taggart. Janet graduated from Fairview High School in 1971, then went on to Bowling Green State University to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in History. On April 6, 1991 she married Leslie H. Schafer and he survives.
Janet was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Archbold, where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She was a devoted Jefferson Township farmer’s wife.
Janet enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and at one time she raised chickens. Janet was a talented baker and was known for sewing, knitting, quilting, which she often gave as gifts to friends and family.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Les; son Rodney (Susan) Schafer of West Unity; four grandchildren; siblings Kay Taggart of Bryan, Jo (Dr. John) Moats of Bryan, and Tom (Vicky) Taggart of Bryan; and many nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation for Janet will be on Thursday, November 14th from 4-7pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier. Services will be on Friday at 11am at St. James Lutheran Church in Archbold with Pastor James C. Strawn to officiate. Interment will follow at Shiffler Cemetery in Bryan.
