The Jefferson Township Trustees met on Monday, July 6, 2026, to move forward with the Selwyn Drive improvement project while also preparing for an upcoming discussion with Montpelier Fire Chief Brian Fritsch.

Trustees Scott Oberlin, Brian Batterson, and Fiscal Officer Linda Beck were in attendance.

An update on the long-planned Selwyn Drive improvement project was announced, which is intended to improve the roadway serving the Wieland Chase and 20/20 Custom Molded Plastics factories.

The township has been pursuing the project through the Transportation Improvement District Program (TID), with up to $500,000 in funds being awarded through ODOT.

Earlier plans for the project called for grinding and repaving the roadway, along with drainage improvements, and widening the road. The project stretches along Selwyn Drive from State Route 15 to County Road 15.

Trustees reported that the project has been awarded and the contract will next be sent to the engineering department as the township prepares to move forward with the bidding and construction process.

Batterson stated that Montpelier Fire Chief Fritsch will be attending the next Jefferson Township meeting to discuss the number and nature of fire run calls billed to the township.

The meeting will give township officials an opportunity to better understand the recent call volume and charges, as well as discuss whether some costs could potentially be reduced.

Trustees are also continuing to investigate drainage problems at the intersection of County Road 16 and County Road M. Officials are currently awaiting a quote.

The township’s annual trash collection days have been scheduled for August 7 and 8 of 2026.

The collection will be available to Jefferson Township residents only from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, August 7, and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, August 8.

Under new business, the trustees approved a resolution for appropriation adjustment and a blanket certificate. Bills were paid, while the township’s bank statement and fund status were also approved.

With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
