John was born in Wauseon, Ohio on August 30, 1945, to the late Donald and Edna (Dominique) Van Pelt.

He was a 1964 graduate of Wauseon High School and a veteran of the United States Navy.

John’s lifelong hobby was hunting for and collecting Native American artifacts, a hobby that was instilled in him by his brother, Richard, at the age of five when John and his brother would walk many miles across fields looking for artifacts.

His pride and joy was his 1965 Ford Mustang. John was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Archbold.

John enjoyed working with wood and making many projects for family and friends. He retired from Sauder Woodworking Company after 39 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Margaret; son, Jason (Patricia) Van Pelt of Houston, TX; beloved sheltie companion, Cody; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; and first wife, Teresa.

A funeral mass for John will take place on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at St. Peter Catholic Church, at 11am, with Rev. William Pifher officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Archbold American Legion Post 311.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the St. Peter Catholic Church. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.grisierfh.com.

The Grisier Funeral Home of Archbold is honored to serve the Van Pelt family.
