Larry Dewire (1944-2021)

Larry W. Dewire, age 76, passed away at 4:50 P.M. on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center near Defiance, Ohio, surrounded by his family. Mr. Dewire was a 1962 graduate of Edon High School and attended Stautzenberger College in Toledo, Ohio.

He was employed by Simpson Industries for thirty years and co-founded Michigan Rebuild and Automation in 1999 with Bill Todd and later retired in 2017. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon, a fifty-year member of Edon Masonic Lodge #474, of which he was Past Master of the Lodge, and a member of Bryan Council #101and Bryan Commandery K.T. #74.

He served on the Board of Edon State Bank and the Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers of Williams County board. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions and was a Indiana University fan through and through.

He especially loved his family and friends and going to his grandkids’ events, participating in any activities with friends and family, and traveling.

Larry W. Dewire was born on August 9, 1944, in Steuben County, Indiana, the son of Montie Van and Mildred O. “Dolly” (Scott) Dewire, Sr. He married L. Joan “Joby” Burd on February 9, 1963, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon, and she preceded him in death on January 26, 2020.

Survivors include one son, Tom (Carrie) Dewire, of Toledo, Ohio; one daughter, Laura (Jeff) Rode, of Bryan, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Nolan, Matt, Colin, Nathan, Abby and Allie Dewire and Courtney and Jordan Rode; one sister, Mary Damman, of Hillsdale, Michigan; and sisters-in-law, Sue Dewire, of Montpelier, Ohio, Cheryl Dewire, of Hamilton, Indiana, and Donna Burd, Carol (Wendel) Long, and Janet Schaffter, all of Edon.

He was also preceded in death by by his parents and two brothers, Montie Van Dewire, Jr. and Steve Dewire.

Visitation will be held in the Krill Funeral Home, 204 West Indiana Street, Edon, from 3:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 8, 2021. Masonic services will be held in the funeral home at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, conducted by Edon Masonic Lodge #474. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, at 11:30 A.M. in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Edon, with Reverend Mary Beth Smith-Gunn officiating. Interment will follow in Edon Cemetery.

Memorials are requested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Building Fund, Edon Parks Department, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or American Diabetes Association.
