Leon A. Shoup, 95, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017 on the family farm in Montpelier, Ohio where he was born on August 14, 1922 to Albert and Myrtle (Faber) Shoup.
Leon graduated from Montpelier High School in 1939. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was active with the Occupation of Japan.
In 1956 he married his love, Lila Irene Ames in Bryan and they lived together on the family farm for 58 years before her passing on February 18, 2015. In 1959 the couple adopted son, Lane and in 1961 they adopted sibling daughters, Lori and Linda.
Leon was a farmer and all of his hobbies related to agriculture. He was a member of West Bethesda Church and a 50- year member of First Presbyterian Church both in Montpelier where he served as deacon. He was also a life-long member of the Ohio Grange and played an active role within the Montpelier community. Leon was well loved and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lori Shoup of Sandusky, OH and Linda (Joel) Tomkalski of Westlake, OH; son, Lane (Wendy) Shoup of Montpelier; two grandchildren, Joshua Shoup of Madison, MS and Holly Tomkalski of Westlake, OH; and other family members and good friends.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lila Shoup, all of his brothers, sisters and in-laws. He was the last living family member of his generation.
