Louise Short, age 87, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 13, 2024. She was the third child born to Russell and Bessie (Spengler) Schultz on October 2, 1937.
She was named after her paternal grandmother. Her siblings are Carol Jean (who died as an infant), Arlene (Bill) Lovejoy (deceased), Lowell (Pat) Schultz, Joan (Paul) Lovejoy, and Larry (Holly) Schultz; and her sister-in-law, Darlene (Walt) Polasek.
Louise was one of the 25 students in the Pettisville Class of 1955. She was a proud Blackbird and was involved in school sports. When asked about her participation she said, “We all had to participate so there were enough players for the teams.”
She married Donald Short on July 20, 1958, and they were married for 34 years until his death on August 28, 1992. Don and Louise had three children: Jill, Jack (Gina), and Joe (Sheryl); grandchildren: Rachel (Rick) van den Hengel, Tiffany Short, Ashley (Dominic) Short Mejia; and AJ (Ally) Short; step-grandchildren: Eric (Amy) Maag, Jade (Brandon) Rittenhouse; and great-grandchildren: Logan Maag, and Henk and Luke van den Hengel.
Louise started her career with the Farmer & Merchants State Bank, Archbold. She worked with her husband at Don Short Insurance Agency and later with her son at Joe Short Insurance Agency for 56 years.
She retired less than two years ago and was proud of working into her 80s. She was a hard worker throughout her life. She enjoyed annual visits for over 30 years to Sanibel Island, FL. She was a lifelong member of the St. John’s Christian Church in Archbold.
Visitation for Louise will take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm at the St. John’s Christian Church Chapel. Burial and a committal service will take place on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 10am at the Archbold Cemetery. A memorial service will take place following the burial at 11am at St. John’s Christian Church with Pastor Erich Christman officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. John’s Christian Church or to Hillside Country Living Nursing Home – Anna’s House.
