Lyons, Ohio Driver Involved In Fatal Vehicle / Pedestrian Accident

(PRESS RELEASE) Sylvania – The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a pedestrian crash on Centennial Road near Erie Street in the City of Sylvania.  The crash occurred on July 13, 2024 at approximately 10:56 p.m.

A 2015 Jeep Wrangler operated by Donald Christian, age 54, of Lyons, Ohio, was southbound on Centennial Road. Donald J. Fern, age 78, of Swanton, Ohio, and Therese M. Fern, age 66, of Swanton, Ohio were pedestrians in the road. The two pedestrians were struck by Mr. Christian.

Mr. Christian was treated on scene along with a passenger. Mr. Fern and Mrs. Fern were transported by ground ambulance to Toledo Hospital. Mrs. Fern succumbed to her injuries. Mr. Fern has life- threatening injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is assisting the City of Sylvania Police Department with this investigation.  Sylvania Fire- EMS was also on scene. The crash remains under investigation.

    The Sylvania cops should have been directing traffic so concert goers wouldn’t have to dodge cars on Centennial to get to their cars. They never are there to protect people going to these concerts. Very dangerous place to be after a show. Not worth risking your life for..Surprised it took so long for someone to be killed there.
