The Lyons Village Council held their meeting on Monday, March 4th. The meeting began at 6:57 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Council first moved to approve minutes from the February meeting as well as the January and February financials. Reading of the bills took place next before hearing of the public.

Andrea Gleckler and Ashley Kelble spoke to council and gave details regarding the upcoming second year of Farmers Markets in Lyons.

The Lyons Co-op has been formed to help facilitate this and to help raise funds for the community. Due to the event taking place last year, and the positive responses received during evening events, it has been decided the markets will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. this year.

The two have already received notices from many vendors who are good to go for this year. The idea of picnic tables and live music was also discussed for the future.

Council then heard about THM’s in the village water supply, with it being said the levels are a long way off from the limit and that everything is looking good. Discussion was then shifted to the following items.

Spring letters were sent out on February 22nd and village insurance is currently being worked on and a vote will taking place to finalize things in April.

Dollar General is expected to close on the property around April 10th, the property has already been staked out and efforts will begin shortly after closing. Next, council moved to vote on two motions put forward.

The first motion was for the third and final reading for a ten percent increase to the water and sewer rate for water/sewer money. This measure was approved by council and will be implemented in April for the March billing cycle.

The second motion was to approve a payment of $10,000.00 to CT Consultants for general engineer consultations. This measure was also approved due to the numerous projects coming up.

Discussion then followed regarding upcoming grant opportunities, the purchase of new signs and the filing of the USDA report.

The mayor then delivered the monthly Sheriff’s report. The report indicated the Sheriff’s Office had spent 69.5 hours patrolling the village in January and dealt with 2 complaints and 1 accident. With no other business to attend to, the meeting was adjourned at 7:32 p.m.
