The Lyons Village Council met for its regular session on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance before minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

The mayor’s report came first with an update on the North Adrian house project, which has not yet been sold. Council was then informed that work on the village water tower project is getting close to the bidding stage.

A new filter was installed in the tower aeration system on August 19, and recent water test results showed THMs of 40.8 at the tower and 52.9 at the pumphouse.

It was then stated that the village has received $15,000.00 back from the EPA AMP grant that was used last year to update the AMP system.

The arborist working in the village is finishing tree maintenance work. Council also held the third reading and vote on the new ordinance that will prohibit trees from being planted in the village right-of-way.

Discussion was also held regarding a case of “stolen water.” It was stated that the Richfield Township Trustees issued a written reprimand to the fire chief, who also paid the bill that had been sent by the village. Council additionally discussed new cybersecurity requirements that will be implemented.

Several financial matters were then addressed, including receiving $65,130.00 back into the village account for one of the fraudulent checks that had been stolen earlier this year.

The village is still waiting for the remaining amount to be returned. A resolution was also passed to assess $873.00 in unpaid water and sewer charges to the property taxes of a resident.

Plans for upcoming events were then reviewed. Bulk trash pickup will take place door-to-door on October 4. The next farmers market will be held on September 20 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the final market of the season set for October 4 during the same time frame.

Trick-or-treat will take place on October 31 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., with a hot dog dinner to be held at the fire hall beforehand.

The annual village Christmas parade will once again be held back-to-back with Metamora, with the parades taking place on December 13 and 14, with the Evergreen High School band being confirmed to participate.

Council also reviewed ongoing zoning matters related to weeds, grass, and abandoned cars, and discussed options for adding bumpers and guardrails to the parking lot.

The next regular meeting of the Lyons Village Council will take place on Monday, October 6, 2025.
