The Millcreek-West Unity Board of Education acted upon several personnel items at its monthly meeting held on Thursday, July 9. Board members present were Brian Wieland, David Dempsey, Elishah Siegel, Dawn Layman, and Heather Jones.
Superintendent Steve Riley was approved for a new five-year contract. The contract will go into effect beginning with the 2027-28 school year through the 2031-32 school year.
His current 2026-27 contract was also amended, and Treasurer Traci Thompson had her contract amended for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years.
Riley also reported that the new scoreboards have arrived.
In personnel action, the board approved Baiden Jones and Calvin Kurtz as junior high football coaches pending completion of all required coaching requirements.
Kelly Colon was hired as a student support specialist and Terry Westfall as part-time guidance counselor.
The board approved college reimbursements to Kendal Pursel (six semester hours) and Kara McCann (nine semester hours).
In other board action:
-Approved the minutes and financial statements from the June 2026 board meeting.
-Approved blanket purchase orders for Thiel Oil Co., U.S. Bank, Toledo Edison, SUT Holdings, and Gordon Foods.
-Approved an overnight trip for the varsity volleyball team for August 12-13.
-Approved the job description for student support specialist.
Next meeting will be on Monday, August 24 at 6 p.m.
