To kick off summer for the Millcreek-West Unity FFA Chapter, members helped serve meals to kids at Memorial Park in West Unity through the United Way of Williams County during the week of June 17th.
Twelve FFA members helped throughout the week by serving meals to community kids and then cleaning up afterwards.
On Saturday, July 20th, Brooke Moreland, Landon Stuckey, Nate Wieland and Miss Frey led an Ag Trivia activity at Truland (Archbold) Kids Day of Play. Visitors spun a wheel to get a number and then were presented with a question about agriculture.
If they got the question correct, they received an FFA emblem sticker. It was great to see all the area FFA groups and Truland employees come together to create a memorable day of fun for over 100 kids.
July 23th to 25th, the 2024-2025 Officer Team traveled to Manitou Beach, Michigan for their annual FFA Officer Retreat. After arriving in the evening on Tuesday, the team got dressed in Official Dress to take their annual officer team pictures taken by Taylor Waidelich Photography.
Afterwords, pizza was ordered for supper, with a boat cruise around the lake and campfire to end the evening. The next day was full of watersports.
The team began their morning with a pancake breakfast prepared by Zakk Cammack and Brooke Moreland. Shortly after breakfast, the team held a planning session to plan for the upcoming year.
After a quick lunch supplied by Jordan Schaffner, the team was joined by Kevin and Vicki Schaffner who took the team skiing, knee boarding, and tubing.
Upon returning from the water, a delicious stir-fry meal was prepared for the team by Libbie Baker and Conner Sanders, and a movie night followed. On Wednesday after a breakfast prepared by Levi Cox and Miss Frey, the team headed back home, excited for the upcoming year to begin!
To round out the month of July, FFA members (Libbie Baker, Alex Cox, Levi Cox, Myah Higgins, Ashtyn Sanders, and Conner Sanders) and Miss Frey woke up very early on the 27th and traveled to the Ohio State Fair to volunteer for the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association at the Taste of Ohio Café. They had a great time serving Ohio State Fair visitors delicious meals prepared by Graze On Catering.
August was full of Williams County Fair project preparation and national FFA award announcements. At the beginning of the month, Libbie Baker, Carson and Sophia Crossgrove, Conner Sanders and Jordan Schaffner were hard at work preparing their livestock projects and records for Livestock Interviews on August 14th.
On August 9th, Ingrid Hoffman, Joscelyn Layman, and Addi Smith received the news that they were all selected as top 10 finalists in their respective categories and divisions for the National Agriscience Fair. Their interviews will be the third week of September, and they will find out their final top 10 placing at the National FFA Convention on October 24th.
On August 16th, the recipients of the American FFA Degree for 2024 were officially announced which included two Millcreek-West Unity FFA members: Ian Hoffman and Matthew Wyse.
These two will receive the highest award that an FFA member can earn and less than 1% of all FFA members achieve on October 26th at the National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, IN.
As September starts, the chapter looks forward to being active in the Williams County Fair, participating in the District 1 Soils Career Development Event, and taking new members to Greenhand Camp at FFA Camp Muskingum!
