After a hiatus of about five months, the streets of Montpelier are being once again patrolled by K9 Officer Knox, a Malinois Dutch Shepherd with three years of dedicated police work under his collar.
This time, his partner in justice is West Unity graduate Officer Tyler Gorsuch, son of Amy and Jeremy Gorsuch, and brother to Officer Gorsuch of West Unity.
After being with the Montpelier Police Department since 2021, Officer Gorsuch knew that he was ready to commit to doing more for the community he swore to serve and protect.
The perfect opportunity to step up came when a very special co-worker, K9 Officer Knox, found himself without a partner.
After talking it over with his family, Gorsuch agreed to undergo the training necessary to become Knox’s new partner, and quickly assimilated the K9 in with his family.
“Something important for the community to know is that he’s got a great on / off switch. When it’s time to have fun, he’s relaxed, confident, and has never met a stranger. But when it’s time to get to work, boy does he go.”
Knox is trained in all aspects of patrol work, including “tracking and apprehension, narcotics, article and evidence searches, and handler protection.”
Between training hard and lounging around the police station, K9 Knox can be found working the third shift with Officer Gorsuch, doing his job and getting all the cookies for being a good boy while doing so.
Their first day back on the streets was January 8th, and Officer Gorsuch shared how “fortunate and blessed this department is to have such a great dog. He’s great at his job.”
