The Village of Montpelier held their meeting on Monday, September 16th. The meeting began with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
In the first order of business, council approved minutes from the previous meeting, financial reports, an Agreement with Holiday City Hydraulic Study, and the following resolutions.
Resolution 1403: Submit Application to Ohio Public Works Commission for East Main Street Water Line and Lead Service Replacement.
Resolution 1404: Amended Appropriations -Iron Horse Trail Change Order; $6,000 increase for the Police Pension Fund.
Council then discussed a dedication for Founders Park and Iron Horse Trail on October 26th at 3:00 p.m. The plan is to try to do it on the same day as Halloween festivities but nothing official has been confirmed.
“We’ve got one awesome asset that we’ve had a little over a year, which is Founders Park. Hopefully, we’ll have another awesome asset to this village in another month or so,” Councilman Nathan Thompson said.
Next, council approved a change order for work on the Iron Horse River Trail, totaling an additional $58,822 to cover further construction engineering and inspection expenses.
Village Manager Jason Rockey explained that due to weather delays at the start, which caused the river to remain high for an extended period, construction was prolonged into September.
Rockey mentioned that the village has received a grant of $43,069.33 for construction engineering and inspection and has budgeted an additional $90,000 for out-of-pocket expenses.
The project, which was initially estimated at $1.5 million and mostly funded by grants, is currently under budget.
“We hope there will still be grant funds remaining to cover the additional construction engineering and inspection expense. It’s possible we won’t have any out-of-pocket expenses related to these changes,” Rockey said.
Rockey noted that he had a discussion with the project engineer last week and anticipated a $100,000 saving, which would offset the cost of the change order.
With nothing further to discuss, the meeting was adjourned. The next regular meeting will be held on October 14th at 6:00 p.m.
