The Montpelier Village Council approved two ordinances vacating portions of alleys along West and East Wabash Street during its Monday, July 27 meeting.
Council members Heather Freese, Don Schlosser, Melissa Ewers, Kevin Motter and Nathan Thompson were in attendance, along with Mayor Steve Yagelski, Village Manager Jason Rockey and Director of Finance Nikki Uribes.
A public hearing was held for the vacation of the two properties. No public comments or objections were made during the hearing, and it closed at 6:02 p.m.
The vacation of these alley portions was requested by Winzeler Stamping. Village Manager Jason Rockey explained the company requested this because it already maintains the alleys and wishes to incorporate them into its property.
One alley is located on the south side of West Wabash Street and passes through the company’s parking lot, while the second is located farther east and dead-ends at the park. The village will keep ownership and maintain an easement on both alleys.
Council voted to suspend the three-reading rule for both ordinances before approving them.
Rockey presented a revised job description for the Clerk of Council position, which has recently been vacant.
The revision combines the previous Clerk of Council and Finance Specialist job descriptions into a single position. Uribes was appointed acting clerk for the duration of the meeting.
Rockey announced the village has selected Ashley Hamman as its next Clerk of Council after receiving 15 applications and interviewing several candidates. Hamman accepted the position and is scheduled to begin on July 31.
A change order for M&M Asphalt was approved in the amount of $235.01. Deputy Village Manager Justin Houk explained the adjustment was due to a price increase and a price decrease with the project.
Only seven manholes required work instead of the eight originally planned, which reduced costs.
However, additional asphalt was needed at the intersection of Henry and Jefferson streets and the Water and Sewer Department parking lot.
Houk explained a semi-truck recently damaged the newly placed asphalt while making a U-turn through the parking lot, but M&M Asphalt will be repairing the damage at no additional cost later this summer.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:28 p.m.
