Montpelier Police Department, represented by Chief Dan McGee, recently accepted a donation of a dozen Tommy Moose plush dolls from Montpelier Chapter 270, Women of the Moose. Tommy Moose is a community service outreach program of the Moose fraternity where the stuffed animals are supplied to local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, emergency medical personnel, shelters and hospitals.
The stuffed moose are then given free to children who are involved in stressful or traumatic situations, which serve to assist in calming the child and giving them something soothing to hug and focus on while emergency or medical aid is administered. Since 2002 over 100,000 Tommy Moose have been purchased by Moose lodges and chapters across the United States and Canada and then donated to various public service organizations for this purpose. Complimentary Tommy Moose coloring books and bookmarks are also available for distribution.
