(PRESS RELEASE) – It’s a gathering. It’s a movement. It’s a NAMI Walks KICKOFF event. NAMI Four County invites the community to join the first ever NAMI Walks KICKOFF. The free event will be held at the Defiance Elks 1760 Jefferson Ave. Defiance, OH on Thursday, February 29th, 2024 from 5-7PM.

This open house style evening will have a registration station for teams and participants, sponsorship opportunities, light refreshments, raffle items, learn about NAMI resources, and more.

The NAMI Walk will take place on Saturday, June 15th 2024 from 9am-12PM at Northwest State Community College, Archbold OH.

NAMI Walks is about people who think nothing of giving everything – their time, their stories, their heartfelt dedication to the cause: Mental Health for All. The movement NAMI Walks takes place across the country, throughout the year.

WE are NAMI Walks is led by The National Alliance on Menal Illness, the nation’s largest peer led organization of more than 600 affiliates that work in communities to raise awareness, provide support, and education to those with mental health conditions and their loved ones.

NAMI reports that In Ohio, 43% of adults reported symptoms of mental illness. 19% were unable to get counseling or therapy. 51% of youth ages 12-17 that experienced depression did not receive care. “Come see what the excitement is all about”, said Jillene McMichael, NAMI Four County Walks Manager.

“This is an opportunity for all community members to come together and show their support of making mental health a priority and allows a safe and comfortable topic of conversation. Awareness and knowledge bring acceptance, and that’s exactly what we need. “
