weaving-WEBArchbold, OH – Fiber artists from throughout the region will be gathering in Archbold on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27 for a new Fiber Arts Fest at Sauder Village. Visitors can watch as craftsmen share their love of turning fibers into finished products. There will be vendors, unique fiber arts demonstrations and even some hands-on activities for young guests to enjoy.

“We are thrilled to have so many talented fiber artists and vendors joining us this year for our new Fiber Arts Fest at Sauder Village,” shared Kim Krieger, Media Relations.

“There continues to be an increased interest in fiber arts and we welcome the opportunity to celebrate and share information about these crafts with our guests.”

A highlight of the weekend event will be the many unique demonstrations taking place in Founder’s Hall. Guests will have an opportunity to visit with fiber artists and watch as they demonstrate spinning, weaving, knitting and rug hooking. There will also be fiber artists demonstrating embroidery, tatting, felting, punch hook, bobbin lace and other fiber arts. A number of vendors will also be set-up in Founder’s Hall – offering guests an opportunity to purchase supplies or hand-made items. For young guests, the Sauder Village Junior Historians will be offering hands-on activities throughout the weekend.

While at Sauder Village, guests will also want to visit places like the Spinning Shop, Weaving Shop, Basket Shop and Quilt Shop in the Historic Village to enjoy even more unique demonstrations and unique shopping opportunities.

“We are pleased to have so many talented fiber artists demonstrating and sharing their knowledge with our guests every day at Sauder Village,” Krieger added. “Guests will also want to spend time visiting all of the other talented craftsmen in the Historic Village in addition to the many fiber arts activities in Founders Hall.

Also taking place on Saturday, September 26 is the annual Apple Butter Making event. A fall tradition at Sauder Village, apple-themed activities on Saturday will include apple butter making, cider pressing, apple-themed historic cooking demonstrations and hands-on activities like making cider and packing apples for the long winter ahead.

Saturday, September 26 is also Smithsonian Magazine’s 11th Annual Museum Day Live. A nationwide event, Museum Day Live allows free admission to Sauder Village to visitors presenting a Museum Day Live ticket (or to other participating museum or cultural institutions)! Museum Day Live represents Smithsonian’s commitment to making learning and knowledge accessible to everyone, giving museums across all 50 states the opportunity to emulate the admission policy of the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. Last year’s event drew over 400,000 participants across the country. Museum Day Live tickets may be downloaded at Smithsonian.com/museumday.

Visitors who present the Museum Day Live ticket will gain free entrance for two at Sauder Village on September 26. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.

Other upcoming fall events at Sauder Village include the “All Aboard” Train Event on October 3 and 4, Fall on the Farm and Scout Day on October 10 and Fall Family Fun Nights on October 16 & 17 (pre-registration is required).
