WHAT A SOCIALLY DISTANCED SCHOOL BOARD MEETING LOOKS LIKE … North Central Local Schools convened in Pioneer on Tuesday evening, March 24, 2020. Present at the meeting were Board Members Tim Livengood, Homer Hendricks, Leigh Boothman, Shane Martin and Anthony Burnett along with Superintendent William Hanak and Treasurer Eric Smeltzer.
Despite the unusual circumstances surrounding the COVID-19, North Central Local Schools held their March 24, 2020 School Board meeting, with some adjustments to accomplish social distancing. Board Member Anthony Burnett thanked the Administration and Staff for everything they have done and are doing during this difficult time.
Guests were not present, but Superintendent William Hanak recognized the following for their athletic accomplishments: Jack Bailey and Zachary Hayes – Basketball, First Team BBC and Division IV District 7 Second Team; Landon Patten – Basketball, BBC Honorable Mention and Division IV District 7 Honorable Mention; Kendal Bonney – Basketball, BBC Honorable Mention; Madison Brown – Basketball, First Team BBC and Division IV District 7 First Team; Kristen Hickman – Basketball, BBC Honorable Mention.
Hanak also informed the Board that Mr. Sam Hutchinson, NCLS teacher, would like to consider starting an EAGLE Table Top Game Club for 20202021. In his Treasurer’s Report, Eric Smeltzer reported and included the following: •Minutes from February 24, 2020 regular meeting •Financial statements and investments from February •Appropriation additions needing approval •Resolution approving revised OASBO 457 Plan Document Under the District 457 Plan The board voted to approve all four items. Superintendent Hanak reported and included the following: •Enrollment numbers are 627 •A levy update •Calamity day update •Thanks for donations: in memory of Marsha Ruffer to NCLS Elementary; from Lorie Wolff to the Golf Program; and a donation of $3500 to the No Child Goes Hungry Fund lunch program •NwOESC Business Advisory Council Report for March 1, 2020 •First Reading of Proposed NEOLA Policy revision – Special update on COVID-19 – March 2020
Next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 20, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. in High School Eagle Room Food Program served 107 students on Monday, three breakfasts and three lunches None of the Principals were present at the meeting to give reports, but Elementary Principal Mr. Morr had sent a report which was read and approved by the Board:
“We are getting ready for our state testing in the district. We have our master schedule in place, labs are ready, notification letters to parents, and of course our students and teachers continue to focus on our daily education requirements. We begin testing on April 6.” “We are now into the fourth nine weeks of the school year. It is time to plan for requisitions, field trips, and award assemblies as another year nears closure at North Central.”
“Our KG screening numbers continue to rise. We have 40 registered for our April 8 & 9 Screening.” “It was another successful ‘Hoops for Hearts’ challenge for the American Heart Association. The students raised a total of $5,844.13 for the Heart Association. Great jobs students and Mr. Hutchison for all your efforts!”
The board then voted to approve: •The Contract Addendum between NCLS Board of Education and the North Central Education Association to add an Assistant Musical Director to the E.D. schedule in the Agreement. The compensation for the Assistant Musical Director will be listed as .04.
•The Consent Agenda which included; -Employments (pending records) of Jamie Brown – Volunteer Girls Softball Coach; One year supplemental contracts held by certified employees – Alexis Davis for Pep Band and Summer Band and Crystal Gillaspy as Band Section Leader -Extended Service Contracts for the 2019-2020 school year for Amand Fellers as Preschool PreK instructor, one day and Lori Masters as Preschool Instructor, one day -Resignation of Diane Veres, effective June 30,2020 for the purpose of retirement -Approval of R.C. 3313.845 Service Agreement for the 2020-2021 school year.
This agreement is made by the NCLS Board of Education and the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center Governing Board. – NwOESC Teacher and Paraprofessional Substitute list dated February 26, 2020. -Second Reading of Policy/Bylaw revisions as presented at the February meeting. -JH/HS Student/Parent Handbook for the 2020-21 school year -and NWOET Contract for 20202022 for Educational Technology (with revisions) (two year membership July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2022) ($6500).
