North Central Seventh Grader Wins Williams County Spelling Bee

COUNTY COMPETITION … Champion Keagon Crivello – North Central Schools; Runner-Up John Deitemeyer – Bryan City Schools.


PRESS RELEASE – The Williams County annual spelling bee took place on Thursday, January 23rd, Jane Myers, Educational Consultant from The Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center (NwOESC) served as pronouncer for the event and called out words such as munchkin, mosquito, and eligibility.

Sixteen students from Bryan City, Edon Northwest, Edgerton, Millcreek-West Unity, Montpelier, North Central, Stryker, St. Patrick, and St. Mary schools competed.

All spellers received a medal and certificate of participation. Stacey Parrish, an Education Consultant with the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center, coordinates the county bee.


Judges for the event were NwOESC Education Consultants Mike Altman, Ashley Ensign, and Dorothy Lambert at the Bryan Arts and Education Center.

The list of spellers for the evening were: Eighth-grader John Deitemeyer, Bryan City Schools; seventh-grader Riley Bever, Bryan City Schools; fifth-grader Oliver Stark, Edon Northwest Schools; eighth-grader Carson Stamper, Edon Northwest Schools; eighth-grader Jocelin Lopez, Edgerton Schools; seventh-grader Brycen Cape, Edgerton Schools; sixth-grader Brett Neely, Millcreek-West Unity Schools; fifth-grader Maggie Oats, Montpelier Schools; fifth-grader Aidan Hannaford, Montpelier Schools; seventh-grader Keagan Crivello, North Central Schools; eighth-grader Braden Workman, North Central Schools; sixth-grader Frankie Juhasz, St. Mary Catholic School; fifth-grader Stella Siebenbaler, St. Mary Catholic School; fifth-grader Bowen Walker, St. Patrick Catholic School; eighth-grader Lily Fulk, Stryker; and sixth-grader Sarah Lotz, Stryker.

Eligible district winners not able to compete at Thursday’s event included: Jenna Sims (St. Patrick) and Tina Dickinson (Millcreek-West Unity).


Keagan Crivello, a seventh-grade North Central Schools student, was crowned Williams County Spelling Bee champion for 2025.

The winning word was “spatula” which coincidentally was the same winning word at last week’s Defiance County Spelling Bee. The runner-up was John Deitemeyer, grade eight, from Bryan City Schools.

Both students took home an engraved plaque for their accomplishments.
