Northwest Township Trustees held a brief but productive meeting on Tuesday, May 26.

Trustee Paul Green called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. After reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, Trustee Robert Kissinger wasted no time in motioning to approve the prior meeting minutes. Both Trustees Mary Gniewkowski and Green approved.

Kissinger followed with a motion to approve the financial reports. Gniewkowski questioned a recent change, stating the repair and maintenance fund went from $1,600 to approximately $4,000 and then back to $1,600.

Fiscal Officer Peggy Disbro assumed the transfer was probably made to the account for a specific item and then the check was issued for that item, returning the account to the original value.

Green added that it was probably for the maintenance shop, and Disbro agreed. With that clarification, Gniewkowski seconded. All trustees approved the motion.

Moving on, Green made a motion to approve the purchase of a boom mower, a specialized tractor or skid-steer attachment featuring a long, articulating hydraulic arm with a cutting head. Kissinger seconded the motion.

Gniewkowski asked where the funds would be coming from. Green said it would come from the road and bridge fund, with $8,000 being donated back to the fund. Gniewkowski approved, and the motion passed.

A brief discussion about stone prices followed. Green informed the trustees he had acquired a price of $32 a ton for pea stone.

Green said, “Boy is it nice, very very clean.” Green said the 200 tons currently on hand, combined with an additional 300 tons, would provide roughly 500 tons — more than enough to cover the approximately 405 tons needed for the three miles of planned road repair. Both Kissinger and Gniewkowski agreed.

Gniewkowski informed the trustees that the zoning book was back in her possession and she would be attending the upcoming zoning meeting on June 2.

Afterward, the new zoning book would go to the county recorder. Gniewkowski was unsure if there would be a cost associated with the replacement book.

Prior to adjourning, the trustees reviewed the building rental calendar to ensure there would be someone available to lock and unlock the building for rental customers.

Kissinger then made the motion to adjourn at 7:10 p.m. Green seconded, and Gniewkowski did not oppose, passing the motion.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 9, at 7 p.m.
