WAUSEON (April 17, 2026) — In a tightly contested pitchers’ duel, Patrick Henry edged Wauseon, 2-1, on Friday night, as two standout arms traded dominance deep into the game before a late breakthrough decided it.
Wauseon’s Cam Sherman was outstanding on the mound, allowing just two runs on seven hits over a complete seven-inning effort.
However, Patrick Henry’s Aden Biederstedt proved just as strong, if not stronger, scattering three hits and one run across seven innings while striking out six to earn the win.
Offense was hard to come by early, with both pitchers firmly in control. The game’s first three innings featured just one hit, a second-inning single by Biederstedt, with neither team able to generate sustained pressure.
Patrick Henry threatened in the third, placing runners on first and third with two outs after singles from Jackson Meienburg and Grady McKee, but Sherman escaped the jam with a flyout to keep the game scoreless.
Wauseon finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Thad Reckner jump started the inning with a leadoff double to left, and Maddox Schneider followed by lacing a double of his own to drive him in, giving the Indians a 1-0 advantage.
The Patriots responded immediately in the fifth. Cal Schroeder singled with one out, and after Mack Hieber drew a walk, Grant Schwab delivered a productive groundout that brought Schroeder home to even the score at 1-1.
Both teams had chances to seize momentum but couldn’t capitalize. Jack Altstaetter doubled with two outs in the fifth for Wauseon, though the Indians couldn’t bring him around.
The sixth inning passed quickly, setting up a decisive final frame.
In the seventh, Biederstedt once again ignited the Patriots with a leadoff single. After two quick outs, the spotlight shifted to Hieber.
On a 1-1 count, the Ohio State commit came through in the clutch, driving a double to center field.
Pinch runner Henry Gibson raced around to score, giving Patrick Henry a 2-1 lead.
With the advantage in hand, Biederstedt finished what he started, retiring the side in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory for the Patriots.
