EDGERTON: May 2 – Nine teams composed the field at the 2014 Edgerton Invitational on May 2. The lone area representatives, the Pettisville Blackbirds, nailed down the fourth place finish while seeing limited duty. Despite missing almost half of the events, the Battling ‘Birds made significant waves in the events in which they participated.
Austin Dykstra took first place in the high jump, as did Dominic Frey in the 3200. Kyle Lantz set a new record of 4:40 in the 1600 for the win, and with Frey close behind in third, the Blackbirds picked up 16 points in that event alone. The 4 x 800 relay event, long a Pettisville specialty, also rewrote the record books. The team of Frey, Lantz, Dykstra and Ethan Brakefield finished first with a record time of 8:46, a full twelve seconds ahead of second place Wayne Trace.
