(February 21st, 2015) – WEST UNITY: The Blackbird Freshmen did battle with Fayette for the right to call themselves Buckeye Border Conference champions.

Pettisville won the fight, defeating the Eagles 41-30.

The first quarter made all the difference, as Pettisville was able to build a solid lead from the get go. Fayette found themselves doubled up as the Blackbirds outscored them 16-8. The Eagles kept pace with Pettisville throughout the remainder of the contest, but they would not be able to recover from that early deficit.

In the second stanza, Fayette was able to chip away at the Pettisville lead slightly, thanks to a 12-11 effort. As they jogged to the locker room, the Eagles were facing a 7 point deficit, as they were down 27-20.

Coming out in the second half, Fayette found themselves in a similar position as they were in during the second quarter. The Eagle boys stayed close to the Blackbirds, but fell slightly further behind, 12-10. The fourth and final frame was a quiet one, with Pettisville holding Fayette scoreless, only putting up 2 points themselves to claime the victory.

Noah Rocha led the Blackbird effort with 11 points. Teammate Landon Roth totaled 8 points against the Eagles. Justin Rupp offered up 7 points to the Pettisville cost.

For Fayette, T. Wagner led all scorers with 15 points.
