WILLIAMS COUNTY SHERIFF
Sheriff Towns announced earlier today after reviewing the statistics provided by the Ohio Department of Public Safety for the 1st quarter of the 2016 IDEP & STEP Grants (October 1, 2015 through December 31, 2015) traffic fatalities in Williams County have been reduced by more than half from the previous year. Sheriff Towns added alcohol related crashes have also been reduced by more than half. Sheriff Towns feels this has been in large due to the Sheriff’s Office being able to offer additional overtime with money provided by the Grants for traffic enforcement details. Sheriff Towns continues to remind everyone even though we have had a mild winter thus far, colder weather causing bad road conditions are still coming. Sheriff said everyone should allow themselves more time to get where they are going and be sure to clear your windshields and side windows from any obstructions. With that being said, also remember to give yourself more stopping distance when approaching a stop sign or traffic light as roads may be icy. One last safety concern is headlights. With the new technology in cars, people often forget to make sure their headlights are on during inclement weather. Please remember if your windshield wipers are on, so should be your headlights. It only takes a moment to check. Make sure you’re visible to other motorists on the roadway.
