Rita Brown (1947 – 2023)

(Retired Librarian For Edgerton Schools)

Rita Belle Brown, age 76, of Montpelier, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance.

Rita was an avid reader and worked as a librarian for the Edgerton Local School District for 13 years before retiring in 2014.

She enjoyed crocheting, taking care of her dog, Buster, and was a member of both the Williams County Genealogical Society and the Retired Teachers Association.

Rita was born June 30, 1947 in Newark, Ohio the daughter of Ern Ellis and Cora Belle (Copley) Brown.


She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1965, Capital University with a bachelor’s degree in 1969 and the University of South Florida with a Master’s Degree in Library Science in 1988.

Before joining Edgerton Schools, she worked at the Ohio Supreme Court Law Library for 5 years and Mariner High School in Cape Coral, Florida for 18 years and where she set up the new school library in 1987.

Rita is survived by her daughters, Deidre (Scott) Anne Misch, of Columbus and Brooke Elizabeth Love, of Gahanna; and grandchildren, Michael Lewis Monroe-Misch and Abigail Kay Misch. She was preceded in death by her parents.


There will be no visitation or celebration of life held at this time.  Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan has been entrusted with her arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Riley C. Crandall Scholarship Fund at Sheridan High School, 8725 Sheridan Road, Thornville, OH 43076.
