Spring Sports Roundup For May 4th, 2021

VARSITY BASEBALL

Wauseon 9 Holgate 6

Holgate rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game 4-4 before Wauseon scored twice in the fifth and added three more in the seventh to pick-up a 9-6 non-league win. Connar Penrod went 2-3 (single, double, three RBIs) and Brady Thomas was 2-2 (single, double, two RBIs) for Wauseon.

Bryan 5 Fairview 3

Breven Deckrosh scored on an error and Keith Huard had an RBI single in the sixth inning to lift the Golden Bears to a 5-3 win over Fairview. Quinn Brown had a hit with two RBIs and scored two runs for the Golden Bears in the win.

Otsego 14 Swanton 4 (6 innings)

The Knights scored in five of the six innings including a five-run fifth as they defeated Swanton 14-4. Devon Crouse topped the Bulldogs with a single, double, and three runs driven in.

Antwerp 5 Edon 0

Hunter Sproles and Parker Moore combined to throw a three-hitter for the Archers who put four runs on the board in their first-at bat to take control. Luke Krouse paced the Antwerp hitting attack by going 3-4 with a home run, double, and five RBIs.

Toledo Start 9 Delta 5

Toledo Start raced to a 9-0 lead after four innings and were able to hold off a Delta rally to get the win. Bryce Reeves was 2-2 with an RBI for the Panthers.

Tinora 11 Archbold 7

The Bluestreaks scored four times in the sixth to close to within 9-7, but the Rams plated two runs in the top of the seventh to secure an 11-7 win. DJ Newman and Brayton Hobbs recorded two hits each for Archbold and Devon Morris added a solo home run.

Montpelier 18 North Central 0 (5 innings)

A matchup of the top two teams in the BBC turned into a rout as the Locos, helped by eight North Central (10-9, 7-2 in BBC) errors, won easily in five innings. Collin Crisenbery led Montpelier (14-5, 9-0 in BBC) with a 3-3 night at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs while Blake Altaffer had two hits and three runs batted in. Altaffer and Ethan Marihugh combined on the mound to limit the Eagles to two hits while racking up seven K’s.

Edgerton 8 Lakewood Park 6

Creed Muehlfeld tossed five innings to get the win and Cole Meyer pitched an inning in relief to earn the save in Edgerton’s 8-6 win. Muehlfeld also had a big game with his bat by going 3-3 with two doubles and five RBIs.

VARSITY SOFTBALL

Edgerton 14 Hicksville 0 (5 innings)

Ashlyn Slessman pitched a complete game while allowing four hits to lead Edgerton to a 14-0 win in five innings. The Edgerton offense was paced by Rylei Moreno who went 3-4 with a grand slam and five RBIs while Lola Giesege added three hits and three RBIs.

Bryan 6 Wayne Trace 0

Addie Arnold tossed a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts as Bryan improved to 19-1 after their 6-0 win at Wayne Trace. Arnold also led Bryan at the plate by going 3-4 with three singles and Delilah Taylor had a double in three-bats.

Fairview 14 Evergreen 4

Evergreen led 3-2 after four innings, but the Apaches offense exploded for 12 runs in the last three innings to pull away for a 14-4 win. Marissa VanDenk had a three-hit night for the Vikings while Macy Chamberlin and Kennedy Keller had two hits apiece.

Otsego 15 Archbold 2 (6 innings)

Three big innings by Otsego, including six in the sixth, were the difference in a 15-2 win at Archbold. Kylie Sauder and Harley Phillips each collected two hits for the Bluestreaks.

Montpelier 10 North Central 4

The Locos posted five runs in the opening inning and Cadey Hilliard went the distance in the circle to lead Montpelier (5-13, 5-3 in BBC) to a 10-4 BBC win. Ashley Caudill topped Montpelier with two hits and Kyndra Abrams had two RBIs. Makinzy King led the Eagles (8-11, 4-4) effort by going 3-4 while Emma Fidler and Darbi Stewart were both 2-4.

Hilltop 17 Pettisville 0 (5 innings)

Hannah Riley had two hits, including a home run, and tallied three RBIs to help Hilltop remain unbeaten in the BBC. Holly Jermeay and Sara Barnum also had two hits for the Cadets (19-3, 9-0 in BBC) with Barnum also adding three RBIs.
