Spring Sports Roundup For Monday, April 19th


Swanton 20 Patrick Henry 1 (5 inn.)

Swanton (9-1, 2-1 in NWOAL) pounded out 23 hits, five of them extra bases, as they rolled to a mercy rule win over Patrick Henry. Brie Williams paced the Swanton onslaught by going 5-5, Rachel Waszak went 4-5, and Trista Eitniear was also 4-5 and knocked in five runs.

Bryan 3 Wauseon 1

A matchup of 2-0 teams in the NWOAL was a pitcher’s dual until the sixth inning when the Golden Bears scored three times to get the win. Down 1-0, the inning started with the first two Bryan batters reaching base and then Bre Long drove them both in with a single to give Bryan a 2-1 lead. Addie Arnold went the distance in the circle to get the win for Bryan (12-0, 3-0 in NWOAL) as she allowed just two hits and tallied six strikeouts. Payton Albright and Jayli Vasquez accounted for the Indian (11-4, 2-1 in NWOAL) hits and Kiara Stutzman had the lone RBI.

Evergreen 8 Liberty Center 1

Jocelyn Schuster homered and had four RBIs while Macy Chamberlin went deep and drove in two runs to lead Evergreen to an 8-1 win at Liberty Center. Breanna Huffman threw a complete game for Evergreen (7-4, 3-0 in NWOAL) allowing just two hits and struck out 13.

Archbold 15 Delta 4

Archbold battled back from an early 1-0 deficit by scoring all their runs in the last five innings, including seven in the seventh, to get a 15-4 win at Delta (3-10, 0-3 in NWOAL). Kylie Sauder led the Archbold (7-5, 1-2) attack by going 4-5 with a homer and four RBIs, while Reagan Kohler, Breanna Boysel, Ella Bowman, and Addie Ziegler each had two RBIs. Reagan Rouleau went 3-4 for the Panthers with a home run and two RBIs.

Hicksville 11 Edon 1 (5 inn.)

Emma Howard had a bases loaded walk in the second inning to give Edon (0-8) a 1-0 lead before the Aces scored 11 unanswered runs to get the win. Mallory Wofford, Carlie Kiess, Ashley Kaylor, and Emma Hickman each singled for the Bombers.

Edgerton 12 Montpelier 10

Avery DeGryse had a double and home run as she went 2-4 on the night to lead Edgerton (7-8) to a 12-10 win over Montpelier in a slugfest. After a scoreless first inning by both teams, Edgerton built a 12-7 lead and was able to hold on for the win despite the Locos scoring three runs in their final at-bat. Montpelier (4-9) was led in the hitting department by Emily Fritsch and Alyssa Custer with three hits each with Custer also adding three RBIs.

Tinora 9 Hilltop 6

The Rams had 15 hits in the game and got a home run from Trista Norden as they pulled out a 9-6 win over Hilltop. Hannah Riley had two doubles and two RBIs for the Cadets (12-3) while Holly Jermeay also had two hits with an RBI.

North Central 5 (Camden (MI) 0

Darbi Stewart fired a complete game one-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead the Eagles to a 5-0 win. Makinzy King led North Central on offense with a single, home run and drove in three runs.


Wauseon d. Bryan 17-2 (5 inn.)

Hilltop d. Paulding 17-9

Clay d. Archbold 10-9


Archbold 10 Delta 0 (6 inn.)

Jayden Seiler and Brandon Taylor combined on the mound to hold Delta to five hits while striking out 11 to lead Archbold (8-4, 1-2 in NWOAL) to their first NWOAL win of the season. DJ Newman singled, doubled and had two RBIs for the Streaks while Jaybe Burkle added a double with three RBIs. Max Hoffman registered a pair of singles for Delta.

Evergreen 3 Liberty Center 0

The Vikings got a run in the second and two in the fifth as they moved to 3-0 in the NWOAL with a 3-0 win over the Tigers. Zach Laver had a 2-3 (single, double) night for Evergreen and Ashton Sayers drove in two runs.

Patrick Henry 6 Swanton 5

The Patriots scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and held on for (3-10, 1-2 in NWOAL) a 6-5 win over the Bulldogs. Garrett Swank smacked a double and had two RBIs for Swanton in the loss.

Fairview 5 Montpelier 2

Ronnie Adkins went 2-4 and Nathaniel Adkins scored two runs to lead Fairview to 5-2 win over Montpelier. Blake Altaffer paced the Locos by going 2-4 at the plate with an RBI while going five innings on the hill to take the loss.

Edgerton 3 North Central 2

The Eagles tied the game 2-2 with a run in the top of the sixth but Edgerton (6-8) went back ahead in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Noah Landel to get the win. Landel ended the night 2-3 with two RBIs while Ben Petit went 1-2 with two RBIs for North Central (7-5).

Hicksville 17 Edon 6

Leading 3-2 after three innings, Hicksville pushed 14 runs across the plate in the final three innings to pull away for a 17-6 win. Connor Towers had a double, RBI, and scored two runs for Edon while Cole Vasquez also scored twice for the Bombers.

Fairview d. Montpelier 11-1


Springfield 3 Archbold 2

The Bluestreaks won both doubles matches but dropped all three matches in singles play as they were edged by Springfield 3-2. Kaden Rufenacht/Ethan Stuckey took their 1st Doubles match 6-4, 6-1 and Miles Rupp/Luke Rosebrook got a 6-2, 6-3 victory in 2nd Doubles.

Bryan 5 Defiance 0

Bryan improved to 11-2 with their third straight shutout as they defeated Defiance 5-0. Jay Fortner brought home a 6-0, 6-0 in 1st Singles, Micah McCashen got a 6-2, 6-3 win in 2nd Singles while Caleb McCashen won in 3rd Singles 6-2, 6-0. In 1st Doubles, Nathan Hess/Carter Brown captured a three-set win (3-6, 7-6, 6-2) and Craig Jackson/Aiden Andrews won 6-3, 6-3 in 2nd Doubles.
