Spring Sports Roundup For Tuesday, May 11th

VARSITY SOFTBALL

Division III Sectional Semifinals

Evergreen 17 Delta 1 (5 innings)

Macy Chamberlin, Brooklyn Richardson, and Jocelyn Schuster all had home runs and Chamberlin also tallied three RBIs to lead Evergreen past Delta 17-1 in sectional softball. Breanna Huffman and Brooklyn Richardson combined in the circle to no-hit Delta while recording 12 strikeouts.

Division IV Sectional Semifinal

Miller City 5 Pettisville 2

With two on and one out Tori Wenzinger connected for a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to send Miller City to the sectional finals with a walk-off win over Pettisville. Alli King had two singles and an RBI for the Blackbirds (6-9), who trailed 2-0 after one inning before tying the game with two runs in the third.

Regular Season

Edon 15 Fayette 5 (5 innings)

Edon (4-13, 4-6 in BBC) scored seven times in their first at bat and cruised from there to a 15-5 win over Fayette. Emma Howard went 4-4 to pace the Bombers while Allison Kaylor and Paige Briner each had two hits. Leah Carnicorn was the catalyst for the Eagles (0-12, 0-10) offense with two hits and an RBI while Alicyn Brown, Aslinn Meeker, and Baylee Willis each knocked in a run.

Hilltop 14 Stryker 0 (5 innings)

Kodi Brenner fired a two-hitter and was 2-2 at the plate with a home run and five RBIs to help the Cadets remain undefeated in the BBC. Holly Jermeay added three hits for Hilltop (23-3, 11-0 in BBC) while five different Cadets had two hits, including Lana Baker who had a home run.

Sylvania Northview 11 Wauseon 1 (5 innings)

Multiple fielding errors by Wauseon aided a ten-run fifth inning for Northview to give the Wildcats an 11-1 win. Macee Schang and Alexis Haury had two hits each for Wauseon (15-7).

Bryan 5 Edgerton 1

Breanna Long was 2-3 with two singles and an RBI as Bryan (20-3) ended a two-game losing streak with the win over Edgerton. Addison Arnold tossed six innings for the Golden Bears with nine strikeouts to get the win.

VARSITY BASEBALL

Fairview 10 Delta 0 (6 innings)

The Apaches put the game away with a six-run fourth inning and then scored once in the bottom of the sixth to get the run-rule win. Hunter Hamilton, Austin Michael, and Jayce Helminiak each registered a hit for the Panthers in the loss.

Wauseon 7 Tinora 6

The Indians jumped in front 7-2 and were able to hold on for the win in a match-up of state ranked teams. Clay Stump went five innings on the mound to earn the win for Wauseon (15-5) and he also had a hit and two RBIs.

Montpelier 7 Pettisville 6

Josh Norr put Pettisville (12-6, 7-4 in BBC) in front with a three-run homer in the top of the fifth, but Blake Altaffer answered in the bottom of the inning with a grand slam to carry the Locos (16-5, 11-0) to a 7-6 win. Gavin Wurm had a double and triple for the Locos while Ethan Marihugh added a hit and two RBIs. Nate Kiem chipped in for the Blackbirds with a pair of hits.

Defiance 8 Archbold 1

Bulldog pitching limited Archbold (15-9) to just three hits as Defiance scored five runs in the sixth to break open a close game. DJ Newman had a double for one of the three Bluestreak hits.

Hilltop 12 Stryker 2 (6 innings)

Lucas Jacobs went 3-3 and had four RBIs while Raace Haynes was also 3-3 and Ethan Varney went 3-4 to lead the Cadets (5-16, 5-6 in BBC) past Stryker. Joe Ramon and Levi Barnum each batted in a run for Stryker (0-12, 0-10).

Edon 10 Fayette 3

Fayette (3-11, 1-8 in BBC) led 3-2 entering the fifth before the Bombers scored five runs and then added three more in the sixth to pull away for a 10-3 win. Six Bombers had one hit each and Ethan Steinke topped Edon (5-17, 5-5) in RBIs with two. Shane Maginn and Braxton Jacob were both 2-4 for the Eagles.

Toledo St. Johns 4 Bryan 2

Keith Huard had an RBI groundout to stake Bryan to an early 1-0 lead before the Titans rallied to get the win in a game played at 5/3 Field in Toledo. Breven Deckrosh, Quinn Brown, Mikey Wolff, Titus Rohrer, and Clayton Rupp each singled for the Golden Bears.
