The Springfield Township Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, to address cemetery maintenance and consider selling two older fire engines.
Chairman Steve Planson, Eric Creighton, Ed Ruffer, and Fiscal Officer Patti Rosebrock were in attendance.
The payment of bills was approved along with several motions. Trustees approved a $1,200 payment to Ohio Monument for work at Boynton Cemetery to restore and straighten headstones. After Adam Froelich presented the information, trustees formally appointed him to the township’s Zoning Commission.
Froelich provided further details on cemetery restoration efforts, explaining that many stones at Boynton Cemetery are damaged and in need of repair. He shared examples of similar work completed at other locations, and trustees supported moving forward with a “one-day repair effort.”
The township is also exploring grant opportunities to help offset future cemetery improvement costs.
Zoning matters were discussed, with a permit approved per resident request. Trustees expressed interest in reviewing and comparing zoning with other Williams County township trustees, including Center and Pulaski townships. The goal is to become more uniform with local regulations.
In additional business, officials discussed fire truck maintenance and equipment. Eight tires from Best One were approved for purchase for the township’s 1982 fire truck. Quotes for Iron Clad tires were reviewed, and it was suggested that tires be installed locally to avoid extra service fees.
Trustees also considered selling two older fire trucks, a 1983 and a 1985 model, that are no longer in use. Further discussion on any potential sales is expected at the next meeting.
Updates were shared regarding regional development discussions. A Springfield Township representative attended a meeting hosted by the Regional Growth Partnership focused on data centers, where it was noted that Northwest Ohio is viewed as a viable location for such facilities. No action was taken by the trustees regarding this matter.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9 p.m. The next Springfield Township meeting will take place on April 22, 2026, at 8 p.m.
