The Springfield Township Zoning Appeals Board met on Wednesday, June 17 for a conditional use permit hearing.

Township Zoning Inspector Todd Burkholder called the hearing to order at 7 p.m. Board members in attendance were Jacob Clemens, Rick Partee, Randy Buehrer, and Daniel Boetz. Fred Russell was absent.

The hearing was to consider an application from Jan and Daniel Martinez for a conditional use permit to allow Alexa Sanchez to operate a cosmetic nail salon, and body art (tattoo) services on their R1 Residential zoned property located on 22401 County Road D-75 in Stryker.

Sanchez was in attendance to request approval to operate a small appointment-only nail and tattoo studio out of an existing building on the property.

She has been a licensed nail technician for three years and currently is completing a tattoo apprenticeship in Michigan.

She will be operating as a single-person business and work by appointment only, with one client at a time. She will be seeing about six clients per day. All of her clients will be parking on her property.

“I will be following all state and local health and safety regulations for both nail and tattoo services,” said Sanchez.

Each service will have its own designated workspace including separate sanitation areas, and proper disinfection supplies.

She will also be using appropriate methods and single-use tools where required. The 36.5 x 23-foot structure will include a lobby, a storage area, a nail art area, a body art area, and a bathroom.

Once the conditional use permit is approved, the next step for Sanchez is to take the building plan to a certified architect to get it approved by the Williams County Health Department.

A motion to approve the Conditional Use Permit was approved, with Clemens, Partee, Boetz, and Buehrer voting in favor of the request.

The meeting adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
