The Stryker Area Heritage Council (SAHC) is gearing up for its 2024 Annual Meeting, scheduled for Thursday, November 14th, at the Stryker Methodist Church.
The event promises to be an engaging evening for the community, with doors opening at 5:30 PM and a meal served at 6:00 PM.
Attendees will have the opportunity to review the council’s activities and approve trustees, followed by a presentation by Randy Bible on “Trains of NW Ohio.”
The SAHC continues to be a vibrant part of the Stryker community, hosting educational visits such as the Stryker 4th Grade’s tour of the Depot.
However, the project to place markers at Oakwood Cemetery, honoring James Bradley and Aquilla Coonrod, has faced delays due to granite availability and is now expected to be completed by summer 2025.
In addition to these efforts, the exterior of the Depot has been freshly painted, enhancing its historic charm. The council also participated in the 2024 Stryker Homecoming and contributed to the historical display at the Lockport Bridge’s 25th anniversary commemoration in July.
Looking ahead, the SAHC is researching repair options for a 1916 D.M. Buehrer Implement wagon and is addressing maintenance issues on the 124-year-old Depot building. The council continues to publish “The Bean Creek Chronicle,” a newsletter that offers interesting historical articles to its members, and encourages contributions of stories and ideas.
This year, three trustee positions are open, with current trustees Sue Buehrer, Jackie Briskey, and Mary Jo Andres willing to continue their service.
The council invites interested community members to put their names forward for the ballot. Trustees serve a three-year term and meet monthly at the Depot.
The SAHC remains dedicated to promoting the heritage and community spirit of Stryker, and the upcoming annual meeting is a testament to its ongoing commitment.
For meal reservations, which are $10 per person, attendees should contact Sue Buehrer by November 7th. The program itself is free, ensuring accessibility for all community members.
