The Stryker Rotary Club presented checks with money raised from the Mother’s Day Dinner held at the Springfield Township Shelter House. Pictured from left to right are Stryker Rotarian Betty Beck presenting a check to Officer Steve Mendez, and Officer JR Treace being presented a check from Ruth Wieland, Rotary Club President. The Mother’s Day dinner was a great success and well attended by community members. The total funds raised at the event came to just over $2,000. The club had pledged 50% of the proceeds to be awarded to the Stryker Canine Unit, and 50% for the Stryker Summer Recreation Program. The club added enough money from their general fund to present two checks written for $1,050 each.
Sharon von Seggern, Subway franchise owner, spoke to the Stryker Rotary Club about her experience with the three stores during her ownership period of about one year. She has the store in Stryker as well as the stores in Walmart in Defiance and Bryan. Sharon also introduced Trayveone Reeser one of her employees who was involved in a work study program with Four County Career Center. Sharon admitted that she was apprehensive about the program, but found that “Tray” was a very good worker and took on a more responsible role in the restaurant as he gained more experience. “Tray” graduated from high school during the last week and she understands he will be looking for a different job, but feels they have both gained from the experience. “Tray” credits the work study program for his ability to graduate, and said he struggled with school until this opportunity came along and he was able to make the best of it.
