STRYKER SCHOOL BOARD: Board Accepts Four Donations For School’s Volleyball Fund

The Stryker School Board meeting, held on August 21, began with the Pledge of Allegiance. All five school board members, Brent Froelich, Jason Leupp, Sharon von Seggern, Dan Hughes and Emily Clemens were in attendance.

In the first order of business, the board approved the agenda for the August 21 meeting. The board then approved the meeting minutes from the previous July 18 meeting.

Next, the board approved the July financial report from treasurer/CFO Jill Peters. The general fund cash balance was $9,072,572.84. Total revenue was $646,831.47 and total expenses were $623,068.82.

Next, the board approved the following donations: $100 from the Kenn-Feld Group for FFA; $100 from Creighton Electric for the volleyball fund for Volley for the Cure, n$410 from Woolace Electric for the volleyball fund, $100 from von Seggern Enterprises for the volleyball fund and $410 from Buckeye Lawn Care for the volleyball fund; and various anonymous donations totaling $255 for a Memorial Tree of Sharon Heckel.

The board then approved of the following items as recommended by Peters: the Student Activity and Athletic Purpose and Budgets statements; to close the Senior Class of 2023 fund 200-9023; the Permanent Appropriations for fiscal year 2024; the transfer of $1,087.77 from the 2022 Senior Class fund and $3,193.56 from the 2023 Senior Class fund to the 2025 Junior Class Fund; and to create fund 551 for the Title III grant.

Next, Dean of Students Beth Morr gave the elementary principal report to Superintendent Nate Johnson.

Morr stated that the Otis Spunkmeyer kickoff for the cookie dough sales began on August 21. Club 56, an after-school faith program begins on September 19 and Karuna Club will be available for first through third graders, along with seventh graders and tenth graders.

Dave Schultz then gave the high school principal’s report to Johnson. On August 31, Josten’s              will be meeting with seniors and sophomores at 8:30 and 9:15.

Schultz then stated that there will be no school on September 4 because of Labor Day and on September 11 because of the Williams County Fair. September 13 marks the First Nine Weeks Mid-Terms. Picture Day will be September 14.

Schultz also stated that fall sports have begun. Golf teams had their first meet at Pond-a-River on August 3, volleyball began on August 19 against Liberty Center, cross country opens at Defiance, August 26 and football opens on August 25, at North Adams (MI).

Next, the board approved the following personnel recommendations from Johnson: Linda Rufenacht as mentor; terminate the volunteer status of Logan Leichty for 2023-24; classified and certified personnel, custodial, food service, maintenance and transportation subs Larry Davis, Kamie Beck, Olivia Brieninger, Kamie Beck and Gary Stuckey; Joanie Bell as a general substitute; and Brian Cheeseman and Olivia Bowers as route drivers for the 2023-24 year.

That was followed by the board approving the following superintendent Johnson’s recommendations:

the scheduled bus routes and authorize the Transportation Supervisor and superintendent to make changes as necessary during the 2023-24 school year; and the transportation agreement with North Central Schools for Four County and IEC Transportation for the school year.

With no further business, the Stryker School Board then decided to adjourn the meeting.
