The Swanton Village Council swore in a pair of new lieutenants for the Swanton Fire & Rescue division during a brief meeting Tuesday evening.
Fire Chief Cuyler Kepling announced during the May 12 meeting that Josh Heinemann and Ashley Leach were both being promoted to lieutenant – to replace now-Captain Jeff Dawson and to fill a vacancy – and Mayor Neil Toeppe swore them in during Tuesday’s meeting.
The council also accepted the resignation of part-time firefighter/EMT McKenzie Roe effective June 1. Roe has accepted a position working in the private sector.
According to Fire Chief Cuyler Kepling, no specific replacement will be sought for Roe. He said the department is always accepting applications for part-time staff on a rolling basis.
POLICE DEPARTMENT

Renner accepted a position with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, while Suarez accepted a full-time position with the Ottawa Hills Police Department.
Police Chief John Trejo said his department will be replacing Renner but not actively seeking a replacement for Suarez.
