Wauseon Senior Tubist Sean Baker has made the Ohio All-State Band sponsored by the Ohio Music Educator’s Association. Sean was selected in the band through a digital audition in which he performed a tuba solo of his choice and a required piece from the book, 70 Studies for BB flat Tuba by Blazevich, Vol. No. 1. Only four tubists from the Ohio were chosen to participate in this year’s select ensemble.

During his senior year, Mr. Baker has or will perform with Fulton Co. Honor’s Band, the OMEA District Honor’s Band and he serves as the principal tubist for the Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestra. Based on recommendations from his teachers, Mr. Don Clark and Miss Amanda Aniolowski, he has been invited to attend both the Wright State University and the Bowling Green State University Sight Reading Clinics.

Sean joins two other Wauseon Alumni Members as the only Ohio All-State Band Participants. Mr. Stanley George, saxophone, is currently a Perrysburg Schools’ band director and he served as an Msgt in the 555th Air Guard Band in Toledo. Mr. Lance Witty, trumpet, is a doctoral trumpet student who is preparing for his Doctoral Recital in April at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music.

At this time, Sean is preparing for college auditions as he plans to continue his musical development at the collegiate level. Congrats to Sean!

Also being recognized is Wauseon Senior Elizabeth McCullough, who was selected for the the 2016 Ohio All-State Choir sponsored by the Ohio Music Educator’s Association. Elizabeth was selected for the choir through a digital audition in which she performed a solo from the vocal solo contest list. Based on recommendations from her teacher, Miss Angelica Dunsavage, she has been invited to attend several other honors’ chorale ensembles.

Miss McCullough has participated in several regional rehearsals and she joined all of the other All-State Choir members for several days of rehearsals in the Cincinnati area prior to the choir’s single performance at the 2016 OMEA Conference at the end of January. Fulton Co. Director and O.M.E.A. Member Kent Vandock, from Archbold High School, serves as this year’s Chair of the All-State Choir. Congrats to Elizabeth!
