METAMORA (April 17, 2026) — After taking one on the chin against Swanton a day before, Evergreen got exactly what it needed in a 9-3 win over Edon.

“Yesterday, Swanton is obviously a really solid softball team,” Viking coach Sarah Friess said postgame. “But it didn’t feel like a 9-3 kind of game.”
“The girls have been doing that all season, where they recognize what they need to work on, and they do a really good job of coming back the next day after a loss and getting after it.
“That’s just something you can’t teach kids—it’s ingrained in who they are, and we are fortunate to have girls who are ready to want to grind it out the next night.”
Madison Ogden put the Bombers up in the top of the first when she laced an Alex Paulson pitch over the left-field fence for a 1-0 lead.
However, the Vikings got that run back, plus one, in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.
Avah Vaculik led off with a double and Sydney Bull drew a one-out walk. Freshman Maya Vance continued her big hitting with a line-drive triple to right that plated both runners.
The Vikings tacked on three more in the second. Riley Studenka led off with a single and stole second. Marlee Brubaker reached on an error that scored Studenka, and Brubaker scored a short time later on Megan Clancy’s grounder.
Vaculik continued her extra-base-hit assault with a solo homer to cap the uprising that put the Vikings on top 5-1.
Edon (4-7) got one back in the third when Alexis Breier’s RBI single brought home Stormlin Osborn to slice the margin to 5-2, but the Vikings countered in their half.
Leah McVey was plunked with a pitch, Studenka walked and Brubaker brought home a run with a ground ball to regain a four-run lead.
Osborn’s run-producing single again got Edon within three at 6-3, but Evergreen (7-4) once again answered in the bottom of the fourth. After Lanae Manz walked, Bull and Vance each singled to bring across a run, making it 7-3.

Singles by Clancy and Manz, around a walk to Vaculik and a Bomber error, marked two more runs in the fifth for the final scoring of the game.
Paulson got the win on the mound, scattering seven hits. The right-hander walked two and struck out three.
