Wauseon And Montpelier Junior High Do Battle At The NWOAL Championships

LIBERTY CENTER: May 17 – The Montpelier Locos and the Wauseon Indians went tooth and nail at each other for position at the 2014 NWOAL Junior High Championships on May 17. In both divisions the Tribe was able to get past Montpelier in close, hard-fought competition.

The Lady Indians prevailed for the fifth place spot by shading the Lady Locos, 50-49. Montpelier head coach Jason Johnston reported on his team, saying, “Jacqueline Carlson was the lone medalist with a second place finish in the 1600M (5:51.1 – personal best) and a third place finish in the 800M (2:46.91). Others placing for the girls were Jaelyn Lyons (5th place in the 200 hurdles – 34.95), the 4 X 100 relay team of Joy Scholma, Chelsea Graham, Ashley Tingley, and Jaelyn Lyons (5th place – 59.24), the 4 X 200 relay team of Tiarra Tibbetts, Destiny Oliphant, Joy Scholma, and Ashley Tingley (5th place – 2:10.88), Aubree Moss (6th place in the 800M – 2:51.92 – personal best and 6th place in the 1600M – 6:09.87 – personal best), Rebekah Carr (5th place in the high jump – 4’ 2” and 6th place in the 100 hurdles – 19.51), Kimme Engels (6th place in the high jump – 4’), the 4 X 400 relay team of Destiny Oliphant, Kimme Engels, Lydia Grime, and Jacqueline Carlson (7th place – 5:09.63 – personal best), Hanna Bumb (7th place in the 200 hurdles – 37.03), Kennedy Lamberson (7th place in the shot – 29’ 11 ¼” and 8th place in the disc – 67’ 4” – personal best), and Chelsea Graham in the 400M (8th place – 1:11.17 – personal best).”

The boys’ ledger saw the Indians again coming out on top, with a little more breathing room to spare. The Tribe took fourth place by 7.5 points over the fifth place Locos, about whom Coach Johnston said, “Evan Friend had a BIG day as he claimed both the long jump (17’ 10” – personal best) and the 200M (25.22s) titles as well as a second place finish in the high jump where he tied his personal best of 5’ 4”. Others earning medalist honors were Peyton Lamberson, third place in the 110 Hurdles (18.31s), Kolden Uribes, third place in the 200 Hurdles (31.44s), and the 4 X 100 relay team of Peyton Lamberson, Austin Grubb, Jaden VanTong, and Kolden Uribes earned third place in a new best time of 52.09s. Others placing for the boys were the 4 X 200 relay team of Peyton Lamberson, Austin Grubb, Jordan Ramey, and Jaden VanTong with a fourth place finish (1:51.2), Kolden Uribes was sixth in the 400M in a time of 1:01.49, Austin Grubb was seventh in the 100M in a time of 13.11s, Bryer Bentley earned a seventh place finish in the pole vault clearing 6’ 6”, and the 4 X 400 relay team of Blake Bumb, Anthony Strubberg, Nate Hutchinson, and Tre Hutchinson earned an eighth place finish in a time of 5:06.45.”
