The Wauseon City Council held their meeting on Monday, July 18th. The meeting began at 5:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence following after.
Council first moved to approve the minutes from the previous meeting before moving on to hear reports from department heads.
Public Service Director Keith Torbet stated that the Brunell Street reconstruction project is ahead of schedule. The current expected date of completion is August 1st of 2022.
The water and sanitary lines are done and the poles for Toledo Edison have been moved. McDonald’s will be closing for reconstruction on July 31st, 2022. Work on the steps in front of the Municipal building have been redone.
Moving to committee reports, Council member Scott Stiriz gave a report regarding the July 11th tree commission meeting.
Discussed during the meeting was the Annual Tree City USA event that Wauseon will be hosting next year. Local business being utilized may be discussed more.
Two different church options were discussed as well for the event. Stephanie Miller, Regional Urban Forester will be attending the next Tree Commission Meeting on August 15th to further help plan the event.
Council member Brandon Tijerina then gave a report for the July 13th utility meeting. He explained ARS Representative Michele Ryder was at the meeting to thoroughly discuss different options regarding the City of Wauseon’s garbage and recycling collection options.
Councilor Tijerina went over the informative hand out Michele Ryder had provided for everyone at the Utility Meeting. It included a pros and cons list for different collection options.
With the city’s 5-year contract with ARS being completely customizable, the Utility Committee Members looked at multiple options ranging from residents being able to use different size trash cans for pick up, to sticking with the sticker system being used.
Tijerina also said a combination of trash tags and trash canisters could be an option. The Utility Committee has about 6 weeks to decide on how they want to move forward with ARS. Council Members decided to move forward with the process.
Council next moved on to discuss matters of legislation with the following resolution and ordinances being approved.
Ordinance 2022-4 modifying the rate schedule for sewer rates for the City of Wauseon. Ordinance 2022-5 modifying the rate schedule for water rates for the City of Wauseon.
Resolution 2022-15 authorizing the Director of Finance to establish a new fund for the depositing and administration of funds from certain One Ohio Opioid Settlements; and declaring an emergency.
Under new business, council members spoke about the upcoming Homecoming events and the parade. There was also a discussion on an upcoming ethics event on August 5th, 2022, that some council members may be attending.
The movie night in the park event put on by the Chamber of Commerce was also discussed.
A motion was then made and approved to pay the list of bills as presented before council moved to adjourn at 5:41 p.m.
