FCA Soccer Boys 05 Pre-Academy advanced in the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) State Cup. The U12 (05) division had 44 teams in the their division, with the FCA 05 Boys advancing to the Round of 16 held in Saginaw, MI on May 20. FCA has an early morning game on Saturday (8:30am kick off) vs Michigan Rush Lansing 05. FCA got an early lead of 3-0 by halftime with goals by Jack Stamats and two from Luke (Bubba) Morris. But the winds had changed and FCA found themselves tied 3-3 with 15 min left in regulation. FCA scored with 8 min left to make it 4-3 (goal by Hunter Keivens, assisted by Christian Orta). However, with 3 min left in the game Rush Lansing scored an incredible goal to draw 4-4.
This sent the game into Overtime. At the end of the first 10 min overtime period, the teams were still tied 4-4. With 6 min left in the game, FCA is awarded a penalty kick for a Rush Lansing player handball inside the penalty area. Hunter Keivens takes the penalty kick and scores! FCA is up 5-4. The momentum was building and the crowd surround the field is making a rumble. With 4 min left Christian Orta plays a through ball into Bubba (Luke Morris) for another goal, FCA is up 6-4. With under a min left in the second Overtime, Bubba steals a pass from Rush Lansing and takes the ball down the field, makes two feints and places the ball in the back of the net. FCA wins 7-4 with an overtime shutout from Joel Gray as the FCA Goalkeeper. The team advances to the Quarter finals held on Sunday, May 21. The day was completely different. On Saturday, it was sunny, but cold. On Sunday, it was hot, humid, raining on and off, and overcast of clouds pushing through. FCA is taking on Liverpool (a newly merged club from Force FC and a small club out of Oakland County). FCA found themselves back on their heels. Within the first 30 seconds of the game, FCA Goalkeeper, Joel Gray from Wauseon, came up with a huge save off his head and tackled FCA was down 3-0 in the first 15 min of the game. The FCA boys dug their feet in and pushed back. With a goal by Hunter Keivens, FCA was down 3-1 at the half. After the half, the FCA boys seemed to have the Liverpool team on their heels now. Things were changing. 8 mins into the second half, FCA is only down by one with another goal from Hunter Keivens. With 5 mins remaining the game, Liverpool is sunk back inside their box, but their left back defender made an unfortunate error and handles the ball inside the penalty area. Hunter Keivens with another penalty kick goal and the score is tied 3-3!
With no time left, FCA is awarded a free kick from 35 yards out. Manny Gante from Wauseon takes the shot, the Liverpool goalie (standing 5 foot 4 inches tall) makes a huge save and gets his finger tips on the rebound shot from Hunter Keivens. We are heading to overtime AGAIN! After 10 mins of a hard fought battle, at 10 min and 15 second of OT, Liverpool #5 hits a screamer from 25 yards out that goes upper 90, crossbar and down into the goal. The FCA Boys fell 4-3 in the State Quarter finals. Excellent weekend from the team and a very proud coach.
