The Wauseon School District has been working since last year to improve the energy usage for the school system as a whole.

On August 3rd, 2020, the school board approved Superintendent Troy Armstrong and Treasurer Dave Fleming to enter into a Service Provider Agreement with Dynamix Energy Services, LLC.

This agreement allowed for the replacement of the chiller systems at the Primary School and the High School. It also helped to replace the stage lights at the High School auditorium and put in new controls for all heating and cooling systems at the Primary, Elementary, Middle and High School Buildings.

The Energy portion of this venture was contracted at an amount of $3,133,474.00 followed by the LED lighting at $810,920.94.

The LED lighting portion was a refinace and was able to save the school a total of $41,689.00 in interest. The HVAC and stage lighting portion was funded with the energy savings that will be gathered from having the control system. The control system is active twenty-four hours a day and adjusts due to fluctuations of use and demand.

The system will also help with the Primary School’s humidity issues. The school has been having these issues for many years due to many factors including each classroom having its own separate A/C and heating systems.

In April, the school board also approved an agreement for $335,335.00 with Advanced Concepts, Inc to replace the roof on the Primary School.

This project also replaced the gutters and downspouts and is expected to contribute to the school’s energy savings in the future. Both projects have been worked on for some time and are expected to finish within the next 30 days.
