(May 15th, 2015) – With the preliminaries out of the way, the North Western Ohio Athletic League track meet was left to be decided by the sprinters and hurdlers of the conference.

Starting the day in second place, Wauseon was able to take over first place, winning the event with a score of 158.5. Holding off Bryan and Swanton, Montpelier came in seventh place with 33 points.

Seneca Wyse claimed first place in the 200 meter dash for Wauseon. The junior sprinter ran a 26.44 to earn the win. Sophomore Indian Audry Lane took eighth place at 30.5.

The 800 meter run was taken by Wauseon senior Taylor Vernot, who finished the race in 2:19.88, setting a new meet record by sixth-tenths of a second. Her freshman teammate Avery Giguere came in fourth place, running a 2:26.31. Jacqueline Carlson, a freshman for Montpelier, finished in sixth, completing the run in 2:29.11. Ninth place was awarded to Loco girl Aubree Moss, who finished with a time of 2:39.37.

Halen Mealer ran a 49.2 in the 300 meter hurdles, giving the Lady Indians first place in the event. Teammate Morgan Roth came in eighth place, running a 52.77 to do so.

In the two mile run, Aleea Volkman finished in second place for Wauseon, running an 11:55.62. Vernot took third place, 11:57.06. Breanna Stein claimed fifth place for the Loco girls, finishing the race in 12:55.01.

Wauseon needed a push to get over the hump of finishing in second place year after year, and they found it at this year’s league meet. Montpelier had some strong moments over the course of the event, but lacked the consistency to claim a top finish.
