WILLIAMS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS: County Looking Into Additional State Funding For EMS Training

September 21, 2024Updated:September 21, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

The Williams County Commissioners held a regular meeting on Tuesday, September 17th. The commissioners approved minutes from the previous meeting, the bills, and the following resolution.

Resolution 24-0308: This resolution approves the Williams County Auditor to create new lines and make supplemental appropriations from the funds as follows:

-Williams County Common Pleas Court: $250.00 from Unappropriated to Drug Court-Seminars/Training for attendance at annual Specialized Docket Conference 2024 and $800.00 from Unappropriated to Auto/Fuel and Supplies for budget shortfall.

-Williams County Department of Aging: $1,000.00 from Workers Compensation to Repairs-Auto to cover cost of hotshot services until the end of the year.

-Williams County EMS: $1,035.00 from Unappropriated to Other Expense for the reimbursement of student for EMT class.

-Williams County Engineer: $25,965.49 from Contract Projects to Contract Services for Farrell’s Lawn Service and $13,500.00 from Contract Projects to Contract Project Surface treat for crack sealing section of county road 23.50 and county road 18.75.

-Williams County Hillside: $29,570.59 from Unappropriated to Repairs, Supplies, Outside Services, Garbage/Waste Removal, Fuel, and Capital Assets to fund dietary equipment, office supplies, dietitian consulting services, waste removal, and fuel purchases.

During the meeting, it was communicated that Ohio Means Jobs has the capability to offer financial assistance for supplementary EMS training, enabling medics to advance to the paramedic level. Additionally, they can support certain residents with commercial driver’s license training.

“I would like to add that this idea came about during a township meeting with Ashley from WEDCO and Scott Lirot. We were discussing EMS and just bouncing ideas back and forth when Ashley mentioned the training money from Ohio Means Jobs.”

“It hadn’t even crossed my mind to consider using that as government funding. I want to acknowledge Ashley for questioning things, because that’s how we get things done, by discussing and challenging ideas.”

“I really appreciate her pushing us to investigate it. I believe it will be great for our EMTs and more opportunities will arise. If we can help these individuals get trained, it would be a wonderful thing,” said Commissioner Rummel.

With nothing further to discuss, the meeting was adjourned. The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 24th at 11:00 a.m.
