Paul J. Thiel, age 82, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 6:31 P.M. on Monday, January 14, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his family, after an extended illness. Mr. Thiel was a 1948 graduate of Edon High School and was owner and operator of Thiel Oil Company, which he started in 1966, retiring with over forty years of service. He also drove school bus for many years with the Bryan City Schools and enjoyed farming and woodworking. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee, Ohio, and Knights of Columbus Council #3883 and was a former member of the Moose Lodge #1064.
Paul J. Thiel was born on June 12, 1930, in Blakselee, Ohio, the son of Frederick and Margaret (Wortkoetter) Thiel. He married June B. Strouse on February 17, 1951, in Blakeslee and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Jerry (Kay) Thiel, of Fremont, Indiana, Gary Thiel and Larry (Vickie) Thiel, both of Edon; two daughters, Mary Lou (Steve) Held, of Montpelier, Ohio, and Gail (Mark) Tingley, of Edon; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one brother, James (Rosie) Thiel, of Blakeslee. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Mattie Held and Wyatt Thiel, two brothers, Donald and Louis Thiel, and two sisters, Lucille Beebe and Sally Ledford.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon. Recitation of the rosary will be on Wednesday in the funeral home at 8:00 P.M. Services will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee with Father David Cirata officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Blakeslee.
