Of all the new businesses Swanton area residents were hoping to see open in town, a bakery and coffee shop was at the top of many lists. Now, thanks to Cat Kania, who is realizing her life-long dream, and her husband Derek Kania, Swantonians got their wish when CK Sweets opened their doors to a waiting and wanting public last Saturday morning.

Following an indoor ribbon cutting ceremony with the Swanton Chamber of Commerce, CK Sweets officially opened to a large crowd of pastry and coffee lovers who poured into the bakery located on the corner of South Main and Chestnut Streets and quickly formed a Cedar Point-like queue.

It was standing room only for hours as the Kanias and their staff served up donuts, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, cream-filled pastries and more as well as a variety of flavored coffees.

To begin, CK Sweets will be open seven days a week from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and may adjust these hours once they are able to gauge demand. They also make pastries for all occasions such as weddings, birthdays and graduations.

The Kanias, or Sergeants Kania, also serve as Security Force members in the Ohio Air National Guard assigned to the 180th Tactical Fighter Wing at the Toledo Express Airport. CK Sweets can be contacted at 419-402-4280 or www.CKSweets.com.
