For Ryan Hake, it was a day like any other, and then things suddenly took a turn for the worst. A call for help rang out, and if you ask Mr. Hake, there was no fear in answering the call.
His only concern was to get there in time, and give Trooper Mull any assistance he needed, without a thought for his own safety.
On January 6, Ohio Turnpike Assistant Foreman Hake was instrumental in assisting Trooper Brian S. Mull with a traffic stop.
Hake was clearing his work area when he heard Trooper Mull call over the radio for assistance with a suspect at a traffic stop. Hake had observed the initial incident earlier that day and responded to the area.
The suspect had been pulled over for speeding and was found to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs. When Hake arrived, he noticed Trooper Mull struggling with the suspect by the edge of the roadway and immediately helped secure the suspect.
For his selfless actions, Hake was presented today with the Superintendents Citation of Merit award on behalf of colonel Richard S. Fambro, Patrol superintendent.
Mr. Hake stated that he has a close working relationship with Trooper Mull, and both have worked together on numerous accident scenes on the turnpike.
Mr. Hake was in disbelief over receiving an award for something he never considered a big deal, but on January 6, if there was any doubt that Ryan Hake had the ability to be a hero, there’s no question of it now.
