Following the monthly update from Hillside Country Living and a five minute General Session of the Williams County Commissioners on Thursday, November 18, 2021 in which the three commissioners approved a couple items and discussed a possible need for the Fair Grounds, Commissioner Terry Rummel asked Clerk Anne Rummel to schedule a meeting with Family and Children First.

Items approved were Appropriations Transfer Resolution 366, minutes for previous meeting and payment of bills.

They also signed: Sheriff’s office appropriations for December; a Change Order for the State St. Project; Dog Warden Report for November 8-14, 2021; Travel request for Commissioner Rummel to attend a tour of a facility in Van Wert; and Hillside paying practice request for a one time vacation payment which was Covid 19 related. The general session lasted 15 minutes.

Commissioners Terry Rummel and Lew Hilkert headed over to the Veterans Memorial Building in Montpelier to serve the Seniors at the Thanksgiving Luncheon.

The building was full, with over 200, and the food was ready when Department of Aging Executive Director, Maggie Fisher, welcomed them all and led them in The Lord’s Prayer.

Commissioners Rummel and Hilkert were joined by Commissioners’ Clerk Anne Retcher, Bryan Mayor Carrie Schlade, Judge Karen Gallagher, Court Administrator Craig Bills, Title Department Deputy Clerk Melissa Semer and a few friends and family members.

Also serving, as well as directing the servers and selling raffle tickets, were Site managers for Edgerton (Cindy Tingle), Edon (Claudia Kochert), Montpelier (LIsa Seiler), Bryan (Donna Sprow), West Unity (Crystal Hallock) and Stryker (LaVon Benner). (Pioneer Site Manager Shana McKelvey was unable to attend.)

Before and during the meal, those in attendance enjoyed background music provided by Gene Zentz as he played acoustic guitar and sang oldies.

The seniors also had the fun of winning seven or eight filled baskets that were raffled after the meal. All in all it looked like everyone, seniors and servers alike were enjoying the day.
