BRYAN CITY COUNCIL: Council Votes To Appoint New Police & Fire Chiefs

The Bryan City Council held their meeting on December 20th at 5:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The board first moved to approve the minutes from the previous meeting that took place on December 6th before moving to hear concerns from the public.

With no one present wishing to speak, council moved on to hear and approve the Clerk Treasurers report. The following Ordinances and Resolutions were then read and approved by council.

Ordinance 56-2021 in regard to providing for the transfer of funds for the City of Bryan, for the month ending December 31st, 2021. Ordinance 57-2021 regarding the hiring of a City Attorney and declaring an emergency.


Ordinance 58-2021 in regard to amending Section 302 of the Bryan City Handbook, regarding holidays, to add Juneteenth as a paid holiday.

Resolution 37-2021 regarding the acceptance of material terms of the One Ohio Subdivision Settlement Pursuant to the One Ohio Memorandum of Understanding and consistent with the terms of the July 21st, 2021, National Opioid Settlement Agreement.

Resolution 38-2021 giving authorization to the mayor to enter into an agreement for administration of the revolving loan fund with the State of Ohio Department of Development Services Agency and declaring an emergency.


Council then voted to add a Special Meeting to the schedule on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021.

Mayor Schlade then requested that council move to appoint Douglas Pool to the position of Fire Chief effective on January 1st, 2022. Mayor Schlade also requested that Gregory Ruskey, who has been Interim Police Chief, be appointed to the position of Police Chief effective on December 21st, 2021.

Council approved both appointments as well the request for Larry Sanders and David Perkins to serve an additional six years on the Civil Service Commission.

Next, a building permit request for 102 West Bryan Street was heard. Council voted to approve the request before hearing comments from individuals present.


Both the new Fire Chief and Police Chief came up to thank council and wish everyone a Happy New Year.

Council Members then went around the room and wished everyone a good holiday and a Merry Christmas. Members then entered into executive session before later adjourning for the evening.
